Our students had a blast reading The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and comparing the book to the movie. They made some pretty outstading projects including perfroming scenes from the book, filming character interviews, creating songs, Re-Writing the ending and creating maps and dioramas. Here are some great examples! :) Way to go class!
This week students are working incredibly hard to build their trials. They are using Fairy Tales (a form of traditional literature) to compose a persuasive argument on whether or not the accused character is Guilty or Not Guilty! Students will have to use critical reading and thinking skills, point of view, drama, persuasive techniques, cooperation and teamwork. :) Check back for our trial videos!!!
Our students had a blast reading the novel and comparing the movie, The Boy inf the Striped Pajamas. They also created some amazing projects to stregthen their understanding of key parts of the book. They performed scenes from the book, filmed character interviews, re-wrote the ending, and created dioramas and maps. Here are some of their great pieces of work! Way to go class!! :)
We are working on a novel study project together this 6 weeks, that is going to help us understand and analyze historical fiction and allow us to preview poetry. The first chapter relates to chores that our main character Ana Rosa does with her mother; like washing clothes with a wash board in the river. Here are some of our kids trying their luck at using a wash board! :)
This week we have been discussing Topic vs. Theme! Topics are one word descriptions, for instance courage, friendship, persistance. Themes are sentences used to describe the life lesson of a text, movie or song. For example believe in yourself, It's never too late to have an adventure, don't put all of your eggs in one basket. If you are seeing a movie this weekend or in the near future discuss with your student what the theme "life lesson" of the movie was and what topic it covered! :)
Students worked hard last week to create and perform a skit based on a story adaptation of Cinderella. They used the elements of plot to outline the main details. This week they will be creating a plot guide to demonstrate their own knowledge of plot. Look forward to some great product photos later this week! :) I am so proud of our class! We had our first vocab quiz and it seemed to be a success! Most all of our students remembered to complete their study aid for the week, and I think that it helped them
In class, students are finishing out the week by writing informal letters to ME! I am so excited to read them and learn more about each one of my students. They seem to be a little intimidated about SIGNING their names but... There may be a cursive mini unit in our future. Hopefully by the end of 6th grade they can sign their names like the pros.
